I Am Dyslexic is a clear, reassuring guide created by neurodivergent author and illustrator Chanelle Moriah. Diagnosed with dyslexia at 25, Chanelle brings lived experience, compassion, and deep understanding to a condition that is far more common than many people realise - and often deeply misunderstood.

Written in a warm, accessible voice, this book gently explains what dyslexia is and how it can impact different areas of life, including learning, work, emotions, confidence, and everyday tasks. Chanelle’s thoughtful illustrations help bring these ideas to life, while their first-hand insight offers clarity and reassurance for dyslexic people and the people who support them.

This book gives individuals and whānau language, understanding, and tools to better make sense of dyslexia - whether you’re newly diagnosed, undiagnosed but wondering, or wanting to support a dyslexic tamaiti, teen, or partner.

How you might use this book:

  • Use the clear explanations to help teachers, employers, friends, or whānau better understand dyslexia and what support can look like in everyday life.
  • Write notes or reflections in the spaces provided to personalise the book to your own lived experience or your child’s needs.
  • Revisit sections as new challenges or stages arise - each chapter offers practical, affirming insight you can return to again and again.

Whether you’re a dyslexic adult or teen, a parent wanting to better support your dyslexic child, or someone wanting to learn more from a dyslexic perspective, I Am Dyslexic is a compassionate, empowering companion.
