Have some knowledge to share from your experience supporting parents, tamariki, or whānau? We’d love to hear from you.

Have some knowledge to share from your experience supporting parents, tamariki, or whānau? We’d love to hear from you.

Whether you’re a parent, teacher, social worker, psychologist, youth worker, or someone who’s walked alongside families in any shape or form, your insights matter.

At Whānau Compass, we believe in real-life knowledge, practical ideas, and grounded support that helps whānau feel strong, connected, and seen. We know there’s a wealth of experience in our communities - and we want to help share it.

You don’t need to be a professional writer. If you’ve got something to say that could support others, we’ll work with you to edit and shape it into something that feels clear, supportive, and aligned with our kaupapa - and credit you as the author, of course.

You might want to:

  • Share strategies that have helped parents in your mahi.
  • Reflect on a common challenge you’ve seen whānau facing, and what helps.
  • Explore a topic you wish more parents had gentle, practical guidance on.

A few things to know before you submit:

  • Language and tone
We actively encourage the use of te reo Māori throughout our articles wherever appropriate - for example, using tamariki rather than “children,” tamaiti rather than “child,” and kōrero rather than "talk or "discuss."

We may make light editorial adjustments to ensure consistency with our style guide and across the Whānau Compass website. You’ll always be sent the final version to proof and approve before publication.

  • Review process
All contributed articles are reviewed by our internal panel, which includes individuals with backgrounds in education, health promotion, and psychology. This helps ensure content is aligned with our values and is accurate, safe, and supportive.

Very occasionally, we may come back with questions or suggested changes - this is rare, and always done collaboratively.

  • Editorial discretion and ownership
Published articles become the property of Whānau Compass. We reserve the right to make editorial decisions as we see fit, and to unpublish content at any time, for any reason.

If you'd like an article you've written removed from the website for any reason, please send us an email briefly explaining what you'd like removed and why, and we'll be happy to do so.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to talk!
