New babies are just the most exciting thing!! And it's totally exciting when you get to go and visit one in their home. If you're lucky enough to be visiting any other new parents, there are a few unwritten rules: don't be late, don't stay too long, do offer to make the tea/ coffee, and don't go if you have even the hint of a cold. And like your mum always said, 'don't turn up empty-handed', here's a quick list of things you could take with you.

1. Food. Food. More Food.

There is no hunger like the hunger you experience after giving birth! Especially if the new mum is breastfeeding, she'll need lots of energy. Food is always welcome. Snacks that can be eaten with one hand are great (like cookies), as are meals that can be heated up in the oven with minimal fuss or effort, like lasagne, pies, casseroles, and pasta bakes.

2. Books!

You might think 'no parent is going to read to a newborn baby', well, you'd be surprised!! And even if they're not reading to their baby right now, they will be in a few weeks or months time. Board books are always good!

3. A Bonnet

Especially this time of year, babies will wear a hat every day, and when else in your life can you get away with wearing a bonnet? They're just the cutest!!

4. More Food

Stop at a cafe on the way there and buy some coffee, slices and panini's.

5. A bottle of Mumm!

After nine months off the champers, we're pretty sure most new parents would like to toast the new baby and mother with a glass of Mumm.

6. More food

Chocolates are good too! The posh ones, or the standard supermarket brands. Either way they'll probably be scoffed as soon as you walk out the door.
